Tuition fees relief

Paying for a part-time degree, master's or your kid's college? Get 20% back on fees above €3,000 (full-time) or €1,500 (part-time), up to €7,000 per course.

How it works

You get 20% relief on qualifying fees, up to €7,000 per course per year. The first €3,000 (if any course is full-time) or €1,500 (all part-time) doesn't count. That's applied once per tax year.

Example

Part-time master's fees of €6,500: (€6,500 − €1,500) × 20% = €1,000 back.

The small print

  • The course must be on Revenue's approved list. Most Irish undergrad, postgrad and part-time courses are.
  • The student contribution counts. Admin fees, exam fees and student levies don't.
  • It doesn't matter who's studying: you can claim for yourself, your partner or your kids
